Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) recently announced plans to construct a second engine plant at its Montgomery production facility, creating approximately 522 jobs. HMMA will invest approximately $270 million to construct the 349,440-square-foot building, which will manufacture 2.4-liter 4-cylinder Theta engines, enabling Hyundai to serve its growing manufacturing operations in the United States, including supplying engines to the new Kia plant being built just across the Alabama line in Westpoint, Georgia. The expansion also includes a 533,000 square-foot consolidation center and a container yard.
MOBIS Alabama announced plans for a $55.6 million expansion that will create more than 140 jobs. A new E-coating facility is slated for development in addition to significant expansions of the redistribution center, plastic injection and paint facility. MOBIS serves Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) and will serve the Kia Motor Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG) being built near West Point, Georgia.
